2011-12 4-H Horse Ambassadors

Congratulations to Aurora Quinn and Korinne Clark for being selected as Weber County's 4-H Horse Ambassadors for the 2011-12 year.  They will be supported by Connie Neal, 4-H Horse Ambassador Advisor.

In this leadership role, they will help promote the 4-H horse program at events such as the Horse Expo, parades, etc.  They will also help with annual events such as the 4-H Horse Awards Program, leading games at the final 4-H horse show, and the county fair.

Each 4-H Horse Ambassador also plans and completes an individual project.  For Aurora's project she will coordinate a community service project to help improve the horse arena facilities and equipment in Eden.  For Korinne's project she will develop flash cards to help members excel in the horse testing program.

We look forward to their projects and appreciate their efforts to help the Weber County 4-H program grow.

Weber Teens Selected as State 4-H Ambassadors

Congratulations to Weber County's Cassie Breeding and Morgan Rich for being among the eight Utah teens selected as State 4-H Ambassadors. Both of these young ladies did outstanding projects.

  • Cassie developed 150 horse study cards to help 4-H'ers excel on their tests and taught four 4-H Horse Discovery workshops.  She did a great job of preparing and teaching fun and age-appropriate workshops.
  • Morgan organized and led the "For the Love of Andy" 4-H Club. The members of this club trained a colt which had been donated to Weber County 4-H by Andy Fishburne. The colt will be sold this spring and the proceeds will support the Weber County 4-H Horse program.
Pretty amazing projects completed by two pretty amazing 4-H'ers! We know Cassie and Morgan will do an excellent job of representing 4-H across Utah.

For the Love of Andy

State 4‐H Ambassador candidate Morgan Rich has undertaken an exciting effort for her ambassador project. She is leading a colt‐training 4‐H club, teaching members how to train a colt and get him ready for riding. Members have been working with Andy, a two‐year old Quarter Horse Bay, since June of last year. The colt was donated to the 4‐H program by Andy Fishburn at Heritage Ranch. In honor of this donation, Morgan named the colt Andy. The members of the “For the Love of Andy” 4‐H Club are Katie Short, Kenedi Clawson, Karlee Baugh, Neisha Petersen, and Ashley Hansen. “I am excited to have this opportunity to teach others and grow as a leader,” said Morgan about her project.

Andy is excelling in his training. He leads, lunges, trailers, trots poles, can be saddled and bridled and is now beginning to be mounted. He will be sold as a fundraising effort in late spring.

2010 State Portfolio Results Announced

Congratulations to Lacey Papageorge and Samantha Bricco. Their portfolios were selected as top in Utah, earning them the opportunity to participate in National 4-H Congress interviews this summer. Of the nine portfolios selected across the state of Utah, two were from Weber County. That says a lot about the quality of our portfolio program.  Thank you members, parents and leaders for all your hard work in the 4-H portfolio program.

Portfolios due at Night Show

Horse project members are required to turn in their "up to date and complete" portfolio by the Night Show on July 7, 2009. For this mid-year review, up-to-date and complete is defined as:

  • Knowledge and skills gained since October 1, 2008 have been added.
  • 4-H learning experiences, awards, community service, leadership activities that have occurred since October 1, 2008 have been added.
  • The 4-H story and photo section do not have to be updated.

Portfolios will be reviewed and returned to members at the final show on July 25. Members who fail to turn in an up-to-date and complete portfolio will not be eligible to represent Weber County 4-H in any regional or state 4-H horse show (includes all disciplines - western, two-handed, English, and Working Ranch Horse).

Throughout the summer, members will continue to update their portfolio, then turn in their complete portfolio for county competition by October 1st. Portfolio awards will be presented at 4-H Achievement Night in November.

Upcoming July horse shows

The rained out show that was supposed to have been held on June 13 will now be held on July 25 at the Hooper Arena. To be fair to our 4-H members, the test questions for this show will be the chapters you “would have” been tested on for the June 13th show. This means:
· Juniors: HH Ch 4‐6, Rule Book
· Intermediates/Seniors: HH Ch 4‐6, HS Ch 5‐8, Rule Book

For our July shows, we will utilize these Western Riding Patterns:

  • Intermediates / Seniors
    July 7 (Pattern 2)
    July 18 (Pattern 3)
    July 25 (Pattern 2)
  • Juniors (Pattern 1 for all shows)
  • Novice (Green Pattern 1 for all shows)

I just want to say a very special "thank you" to all our exhibitors, parents, leaders, and judges for making the June 20th horse show a success despite the cold, wet weather. The judges commented on our member's outstanding sportsmanship. Thanks for demonstrating your great 4-H spirit!

Date for Rained Out Show

The June 13th show was cancelled due to rain. This show will now be held on Saturday, July 25th at 8 a.m. at the Hooper arena.
